From the recording Down That Country Road
Lyrics
Sunrise creeps on that old dirt lane, memories hanging like a sweet refrain,
Grew up where the fields stretch wide and the sky meets the pines,
Underneath those stars shined bright, we learned the rhythm of the lines.
My buddies and me, we'd tear it up loud, rock and roll in our souls,
Dust on our boots, a whiskey in my hand, chasing dreams before we’re old.
Pappy's voice echoing like a song on the radio,
Son, don’t go down that road,
Keep your heart true, ‘cause you might lose - control.
I didn't go down that road, I took the dirt path back,
With country tunes in my blood and a touch of that rock’n’roll Knack.
Every show under neon lights, whiskey bottles like gold,
This is my life, a little bit gritty, and a whole lot bold.
Every night, those honky-tonk hearts resonate in the crowd,
Those two-steppin’ boot scoots, singin' loud, proud, and unbowed.
I remember how he’d laugh, my Pappy with a sly grin,
"Just take it slow, boy, a true songs made from within.
Life’s a winding road with stories waiting to unfold,
So I sing for the lost and the brave, for the young and the old.
I didn't go down that road, I took the dirt path back,
With country tunes in my blood and a touch of that rock’n’roll Knack.
Every show under neon lights, whiskey bottles like gold,
This is my life, a little bit gritty, and a whole lot bold.
Now I hold my guitar, and memories rush like a river,
Playing till the last shots fired, feeling that old shiver.
Underneath the stars, where the fireflies twirl,
I found my way, - and boy I found my world.
So here’s to Pappy and those lessons learned,
To every whiskey smile and every song that burns.
Growing up country, rock and roll by my side,
This is my life, on this wild ride.
Down that country road, where my heart feels at home,
I’ll always keep singing, _ I’ll never be alone.
